THE WEATHER To-Day’s North Island Report, Overcast conditions were reported at Wellington and Gisborne this morning, but blue skies prevailed elsewhere in the North Island. Light to moderate breezes were general. The barometer had continued to rise steadily. Temperatures at 9 o’clock were: Auckland 56 degrees. Taur,align and Gisborne 55, Opotiki 61, Fast Cape 50, and Napier and Wellington 52. Rough seas were reported at East Capo: elsewhere modovate. or smooth. Last Night’s Forecast An anticyclone is now moving from the Tasman Sea on to the New Zealand centre, being likely to cross the. South Island. Pressure is falling over Eastern Australia. Winds: Moderate to strong southerly, decreasing gradually. Seas: Rough between Ivaikoura end East Cape, but later decreasing; elsewhere smooth to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to moderate southerly winds, later gradually tending northerly; sens smooth to moderate. Weather: Some scattered showers at first oil the east coast between Gape Palbser and the East Cape; otherwise Fair to fine; becoming milder to-mor-row. Midday Forecast General inference.—The anticyclone which has been almost stationary to the west during the last week lias now moved cm to the Dominion and increased in intensity, barometers reading over ?o.4iu. at. most places. The pressure has fallen over Eastern Australia, where conditions are disturbed. Forecast Light variable winds, tending northerly, and later freshening. Weather fine and mild, but cold night temperatures. Seas smooth to moderate.
