PATUTAHI NEWS
(Herald Correspondent.)
Despite the inclemency of the weather, there was a good attendance at the Patutahi School Committee's weekly euchre tournament on Tuesday. The prizes were won by Mrs. J. Morrow and Mr. C. McGrannachim, other prizes going to Miss E. Baty and Mr. George Batson. A dainty supper was provided by the ladies. Yesterday afternoon return matches were played at Patutahi between the Ngatuiu School and the local school football and basketball clubs. The games resulted in a double win for the local teams. In the football the newly - formed Ngatapa team showed considerable improvement on their play of a fortnight ago, the forwards following up better and the backs showing more combination. The Patutahi juniors earned u well-deserved win, the result of heady play combined with sound tackling. Tries were scored by Ray Eado, Allan Worsnop (2), and Ngata Ruru (3), Wors nop converting two. Mr. .VI. Scragg was the referee. In the girls’ game the score was 17 to 7, scorers for the winners being Madeline McGramiachan and Joan Knight, while Alice Uoani and Ruby Finiuyson notched points for the visitors. Misses Westermau and Rat-liie. controlled the game. Further damage was done to early potato crops by Wednesday night’s frost. Plants that were just recovering from a previous frost were again cut back. Messrs. Reach, Gillman and Mills have returned from a motor trip to Ancle land.
Arrangements are well in hand for tonight's dramatic entertainment in con nection with the l’atutahi Women’s Institute dramatic circle, when local talent will be assisted by well-known Gisborne artists.
