A SUPER-“MIKE"
REMARKABLE INVENTION A remarkable new invent ion which recently appeared in Hollywood will do much to reduce the cost of production. Lt is known as .a ‘‘sound concentrator,” ami consists of a saucershaped microphone about the size of au open ■umbrella. It; is apparently so sensitive to sound that, besides recording many noises which would escape an ordinary “mike,” it can be used at a much greater distance from the performers. This often makes it unnecessary to lit U p large spaces with the usual elaborate wiring system. In a recent film showing a baseball o'amo the “concentrator” was stationary in one corner of the field and all the required noises could be recorded ltv pointing it in the right direction. In “Central Airport" it actually recorded from the ground the noise of a ■parachute opening in mid-air.
