The Waimoa arrived from Auckland this morning, She is expected to sail about 4 p.m. for Napier. The Poolta completed the. discharge oi her southern cargo here yesterday, and after loading sailed for Wellington, on route to southern ports to load again lor Napier and Gisborne. The Titoki. loading for Napier and Gisborne, left Timavtt yesterday, and leaves Lyttelton to-day for Wellington. The vessel is due nt Cixluflne on J liesday next, and after working this port will sail for Tauranga. The Gabriella is to load at Sydney about October 2 and at Newcastle about Odober 5, taking general cargo and coal for Napier and Gisborne. The A. and A. lane steamer W inton sailed from New York oil September 20 and Norfolk on September 21 for Auckland. Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. via Galveston. Cargo for Gisborne will be transhipped at Auckland. The Pa km a arrived this morning from Auckland and the Coast. She sailed at midday for Waikokopu. Napier, and Auckland.
The Awahou, from Wellington and Napier, is due here to-morrow. The ship is to clear this port the same day for Lyttelton, where she will load, on Monday, and proceed later to Wellington W aikokopu. Gisborne and the Coast. The Pukeko, which has been undergoing survey and overhaul, resumes her usual limning next week, loading at Auckland on Monday and Tuesday lor Coast hays. Gisborne, and Napier. The Margaret W arrived this morning from Auckland. She leaves about midnight for Tolagu Bay, Tokomaru Rav and Auckland. At the last mentioned port she. will load on Monday and L'nesdav for Coast bays and Gisborne. The Margaret, W. presents a different appearance in her new.rig. As well as the cleaning and painting of her hull, the foremast of the vessel has been taken out and two fine kauri sticks replace tbe main and mizzen masts, while the fourth mast, which takes the place ol a funnel, has been lopped by nearly 17ft.
The Tiroa, which arrived at Gisborne from Auckland this morning, is to leave i n Saturday for Auckland.
The C. and D. Line motor ship Port Alma is to load at Gisborne for London on October 26. The Gisborne loading agents are Messrs. Williams and Kettle, Limited.
Tlie l’aua arrived from Wellington this morning with a shipment of bitumen and motor spirit. She is exported to be dispatched on Friday night for Auckland. The vessel is due hack here oil October 8 with bulk motor spirit and fuel oil. and after discharging will load empty drums for Wellington, calling at Napier on route.
It is reported that the Japanese steamer Nankwa is eu route to New Zealand to load scrap metal for Japan, her loading ports being Wanganui, Napier, and Dunedin. She is scheduled to reach Wanganui about October 28. The Nankn Marti is a vessel of 4055,t0ns and site was formerly named Visigoth. She was built at Dumbarton. Scotland, in 1906, The retirement from the I'nion Steam Ship Company is announced of Mr. John Annaiid, chief engineer of the GabriellaMr. Amiaml was born at liancliory. Kincardineshire. Scotland, mi June 10. 1870, and prior to joining the I'nion Company was for 15 years a marine engineer with It. S. Lamb and Company. Mr. Annaiid joined the I'nion Company in February. 1939, when the Lamb Company vessels were taken over, and has retained the position of chief engineer of the Gabriella since that date. Mr. Annaiid lias had considerable experience in New South Wales, where he was for JO years employed in Messrs. J. and A. Brown's colliers and tugs, and 10 years nt Moil's Dock and the Sydney Ferry workshops. Captain If. Tindle has taken command of the Patta, relieving Captain D. lb Paterson, who is proceeding to Australia on leave. Mr. Langford has join'd the Pnua as third officer. -More, vessels entered the Tirnaru harbor during August than in any other month since the opening of the port. The arrivals during August were 48 steam and motor-vessels, with an aggregate of 52,324 tons.
During the first six months of this year 12!>fi ocean-going vessels' of 4,711,025 tons net arrived at Argentine ’ports. 'Pilose under the Rritish (lug totalled 44X of 1,7(18,452 tons. Britain's nearest rivals living the Italians, Creeks, and German, with 111 of 504,848 tons, lbi! of 44!),H1M 1 tons, and A 7 of 317,321 tons respectively.
The Wellington Harbor Board lias decided to proceed with the- replacement of the existing black buoy at Steeple Rock, at the western side of the harbor entrance, with a beacon light, at a cost of £I6OO. The light will assist lighter draft vessels in keeping to the proper side of the channel and generally facilitate navigation at the entrance.
