Mr. W. G. f.odder, chief engineer of tho Gear Meat Company, will retire from the service of the company at the end of this month.
Advices from Melbourne state that Dr. Littlejohn, principal of Scots College and formerly principal of Nelson Col lege, is seriously ill. Mr. L. O. IL Tripp, who has been on a. holiday visit to England, will leave ])V the Rangitane on October 21, and is expected to arrive in Wellington about the end of November.
Mr. J. E. Nichol. examining officer of the Customs Department, Invercargill, lias been promoted to collector of customs at Napier, succeeding Mr. 11. \Y. S. Ruff ell, who is retiring from the setvice
Having reached the superannuation retiring age. Captain J). McDougall, who had been harbormaster at Timaru for 15 vears, lias tendered his resignation. Captain H. White, assistant harbormaster, lias- been appointed actingharbormaster for six months.
In recognition of his services, the Rev. \V. J. Elliott was elected a Idc member at the annual meeting of the Poverty Ray Cricket Umpires’ Association last evening. Mr. • Elliott was one of the founders of the association, and his departure from the district- was referred to with deep regret.
The congregation of the Oiiehunga Presbyterian Church has decided to approach the Auckland presbytery and urge that the Kt. Rev. It .D. Scott. their minister, and Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, should he allowed to continue at CnehungaMr. Scott lias received .1 call to Ivhaudallah, Wellington.
A public reception arranged by the Auckland Rotary Club will be ictuierei.' to Mr. I-rank Milner, rector of Hie Waitaki Roys’ High ,School, in rtio Town Hal! next Monday evening. Mr Milner was sent by Rotary Clubs in Now Zealand to represent them on the International Convention platform at Boston recently, (lis address on "The New World Order." dealing with the interdependence of nations under presentday conditions, was very enthusiastically received, and in response to many requests, he undertook a locture tour through the United States. Mr. Milner will speak on tin* same subject as that of his addresses to American audiences, and will give a resume of his experiences in the United Stales and Canada.
