INTERNATIONAL AWARDS
ENFORCING CONTRACTS X.Z. BILL INTRODUCED (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. An explanatory memorandum to the Arbitration Clauses (Protocol) and Arbitration (Foreign Awards) Bill, read a Jirst time in the House of Kepresentutives yesterday, says that the Dominion of New Zealand is a party both to the protocol on the arbitration clauses, and to the convention on the execution of foreign arbitral awards. In order that full effect could bo given in the United Kingdom.to the protocol and the convention, the Imperial Parliament had passed legislation on the subject, and it was thought advisable that similar action should be taken in New Zealand. Tho protocol U concerned with the recognition by courts exorcising jurisdiction in tffe territory of a contracting State, of the validity in commercial contracts or agreements,' to the effect that disputes arising out of such emit facts shall he submitted lo arbitration.
The convention deals with the enforcement by courts exercising juris diction in the territory of a contract ing State of awards made in the territories of the other contracting States
