“PAUPER’S” £40,000
OVER 700 CLAIMANTS SYDNEY, Sept. 16. No fewer than 790 applicants iu Ireland have claimed kinship to Martin Edward Burke, who died in the Royal .Prince Alfred Hospital on June 8, 1923, aged 80, with only 11 s 2d in his possession, but in whose room at Darlinglmrst. deposit slips for between £30,000 and £40,000 were found. There are other claimants in the US. A.
These facts were disclosed to-day to the Master in Equity, Air 11. A. Henry, who commenced the adjudication as to the next of kin of the old man.
'Mary Hayes, of America, has forwarded documentary evidence to support her claim that she is a niece. Another claimant is Mary Louise Buitke, of Kilkenny, Irish Free State, who says she is a cousin of Burke. Another claimant says lie is .a son of Burke. In view of the affidavit evidence submitted, the adjudication is expected to last several days.
