MRS. MCCOMBS HONORED

WOMEN’S TRIBUTES WELLINGTON GATHERING 1 (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Representatives of over 50 women’s organisations extended a reception' to Mrs. li. R. McCombs, the first New Zealand woman to become a member of Parliament. The function was very largely attended. The speakers included Miss Mary Richmond, the first woman to sit on a public body in New Zealand, Mrs. A. McVivar, '.T.P., who is a member of the Wellington Hospital Board, Mrs. Peter Fraser, and Miss Magili, the first woman president of tho New Zealand Educational Institute. Replying, Mrs. McCombs said her election, if it had done nothing else, had fixed attention on the fact that it s was possible for women to sit in Parliament, Which was itself a step forward. She had received over 1000 letters from women of every shade of political opinion and every religious denomination congratulating her on her achievement.
