OBITUARY
1 , ME. THOMAS H. PENN I*j V #•• (l’er Press Association.) STEATFORD, last night. The death is announced of Mi Thomas Harry Penn, aged 78 years, for 25 years secretary of the Hospital Hoard. He was the first town clerk in .Stratford, being appointed in 1898, and he resigned in 1902 to enter private practice as an accountant, building up an extensive practice. Ho was secretary of several leading dairy companies.
Mr. Penn was a member of the first party to climb Mt. Egmoiit from the Stratford side, being insttuniental 'in discovering a route through dense bush. He was prominent in the development of Stratford from its earliest days and took ail active part in connection with the commencement of the Stratford Main Trunk line. Mr. Penn was well-known and highly respected over the whole of Taranaki. He leaves a widow, a- son and a daughter. His brothers are Messrs. C. Penn, W. J. Penn {late editor of the Taranaki Herald) and V. J. Penn (Auckland). \ Wellington exchange announces the death of Mrs Matilda E. Fisher, wife of Mr Mowbray 0. Fisher, for merly of the Lauds and Income Tax Department. Mr. Arthur Cockroft, whoso death occurred recently pit the ago of 80 years, was a resident of Invercargill from the early days 'of the town,’ and was associated with the railway service since the time when the first lines were brought into operation in Southland.
