H.M.S. Eclipse and 11.M.5. E.sk, the Turi and the Kupo in honor of two famous Maori navigators. Sir Arthur added that he. preferred English names. Members were of the opinion that the two Maori names were worthy of larger ships—lor instance, the cruisers that would replace H.M.S. Dunedin and H.M.S. Diomede in the near future. They were of opinion, too, that Maori names on ships m English waters would only lead to misunderstanding and mispronunciation.
