EGMONT'S ATTRACTIONS

DAWSON FALLS POWER Dawson Falls will probably be the best lighted mountain tourist resort in New Zealand if a complete scheme tor the installation of a hydro-electric plant is adopted by the south committee of the Egmont ‘National Park Bow'd. A grant of £BOO from the proceeds of the last art union makes possible a more ambitious scheme than was at first, contemplated, and possibly nearly £ISOO will be spent on the installation. Lighting, it is understood, will be concentrated upon. All the rooms in the hostel will be well lighted, as will the cottages and camp-house. In addition, it is suggested that powerful lamps will be installed in the parking area and in the tracks adjacent to the hostel. A satisfactory heating and cooking installation is also projected. It will probably be possible to lieat. all the rooms in the hostel, make some provision for drying clothes, and leave something for cooking. The intake will be at what is called the meeting of the waters, a little below Wilkie’s Pools on the Kapuni Stream. The water will bo taken by pipe-line to the power-house near the metal pit by the the hostel, where a S(J horse-power generating plant will be operated.
