MAORI SENT TO PRISON
Pleas of guilty w'ere entered by Ruka Tangira, 23, in the Opotiki Police Court to charges of theft. The stolen articles consisted of two saddles and a bridle and buggy reins belonging to different owners at Te Kaha and Raukokere, the total value being £8 10s. Accused was also charged with committing mischief by wilfully destroying a horse valued at £lO, the property of Wiremu King. Sergeant Millar said there was no apparent reason why accused shot the horse. Accused was sentenced by Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M., to one month’s imprisonment on each charge of theft, and to three months’ imprisonment for mischief, flic sentences to be concurrent.
