A TERRIFIC STORM
VISITOR TO HASTINGS Hastings was visited on Thursday afternoon by one of the most sudden and remarkable storms experienced for many years. Just prior to the breaking of the storm the .atmosphere assumed a very queer tint and then followed a loud rumbling noise, which marked the storm’s approach. Between the noise and the actual breaking of the storm there was only n period of about two seconds and then hailstones, followed Immediately bv torrential rain and ,a gale of wind; came with terrific force. It was a weird sensation, and the force of the rain may be gathered from the fact, that within a few minutes of the start channels were flowing over and weak spots in house and shop roofs were soon found out. Actually the storm lasted loss than 30 minutes, but while it lasted, it ..was a terrifying experience, especially for the 1500 odd schoolchildren at Nelson Park. The accompanying thunder terrified them .even more, and when the storm passed over, there were very few children who were not drenched to the skin and crying out in their fear.
