DAFFODIL SHOW
MAGNIFICENT BLOOMS SPRING DISPLAY OPENS The annual daffodil show of the Poverty Bay Horticultural Society was opened to-day at the City Hall, with a magnificent display ot narcissi, out flowers, and decorative exhibits. The weather has not been favorable to the presentation of blooms in the finest condition, and the horticulturists of the district are to be congratulated on having so far overcome weather difficulties as to present one of the finest spring shows seen in Gisborne in recent years. The society owed much to the enthusiasm of its members, and to the willing co-operation of specialists in various classes of spring blooms. The staging of the exhibits and the general conduct of the show was undertaken by Messrs. R. Rerge and P. Everett, secretary and assistant-secretary, Miss M. Bull and Mrs. R. B. Dobson, and Messrs. H. G. Wellbourne and F. J. Rowley, stewards in the various sections. Mrs. $• D. Nathan judged tiro decorative classes, and Mrs. P. Dwyer the cut flowers other than narcissi, while the major section, representing a severe test of discrimination, was entrusted with similar success to Mr. G. TMaunder, the well-known dafiodil grower. . Included in the exhibits were special displays by Messrs. G. T. Maunder, N. F. Currie, and J. C. Andrew, the tables bearing their respective exhibits being much admired. A feature of the early stages of the show was the free admission of the senior class pupils of the Gisborne Central School, who were allowed an interval for the examination of exhibits.
