After being chased by a constable through Petone for two miles late on Tuesday night, the driver of a stolen motor-car just managed to elude arrest by jumping out of tho. ear while it Was in motion and escaping to a vacant section. Ho loft in the ear a young woman passenger, to whom lie had offered a rifle earlier in the evening. The whole chase took place at a speed of about 45 miles an hour.
