ANZAC DAY ESSAYS
R.S.A. COMPETITION AWARDS ANNOUNCED At the monthly meeting of the Gisborne Returned Soldiers’ Association executive, held last evening, the judges appointed for the An/.ac Day essay competition, conducted throughout the district schools, submitted a list of awards, as under; — Standards ,111 and IV.— Merle Agnew, Tolaga Buy. Standards V and VT.—William Revreal, Whatatutu. Forms I and II. —1\ Kirker, Gisborne Central. Forms 111 and IV —Nora Limes, Gisborne High School. Forms V and VI. —Max Stephenson, Gisborne High School. Special award.—. John Murphy, Tolaga Hay High School. The report of the judges, Messrs. G. Cnuvshaw, G. Bradley Smith, and G. C. Jones, mentioned that the standard of the essays in general was very satisfactory. la some instances it- was clear that the scholars had iiacl the benefit of careful explanation of the subject on the part of their teachers, and there were instances of a really sound grasp of the subject. It was mentioned, also, that two of the prize-winners, Kirker, of Gisborne Central, and John Murphy, of Tolaga Bay, had figured ifi the list of successes last year, when the essay competition was initiated.
