It is reported from Dunedin that the hurdler, Antrim Boy, has been sold to a Timaru owner. This may mean an addition to the useful lot of jumpers m training in South Canterbury. ”* # *

A. S. Ellis has received an addition to his team in the four-year-old gelding Bowlands, by Acre from Wairiporipo, the propevty of Mrs. T. B. Dwan, ot Wellington. Ellis has recommissioned Importance, who has built up considerably in his long spell

M. H. Nicole, who has been on the accident list since the Grand. National meeting!, is riding work again. Mr. L. E, B, 'Wallace, of Bunnythorpe, for whom Nicole trains privately, has not any horses in work at present, but lie has a quartet of young horses to be prepared later.

Gay Crest is suffering from tendon trouble and is to be given a good spell from active work. A decision as to Ins future.has not yet been arrived at, but taking into consideration the doubt about .his soundness and the big weights ho would still have to carry, it will probably not bo deemed wise to resume his preparation.

Another record time for Australia and New Zealand was established at Randwick on Saturday, Turbine covering seven furlongs in lmin. 231>sec. The previous best was credited to Captivation, who registered lmin. 23i}scc. on the samo track last season. The record before that, lmin. 24sec„ was held for some time by Fiuora (Riccarton) and Waranton (Flemingtoii).

The three-year-old, Guarantee, is .among the attractive workers at Riccarfcon, where has has commenced to hit out freely in sprinting tasks. He is booked for his first race this season at the Kurow meeting, after which he will go to Wingatui for sprint handicaps, as he is not engaged in the Dunedin Guineas. He will be accompanied on the southern trip by the two-year-old sister to La Poupee, by Tea Tray from Dancing Doll. This filly show 3 a lot of sped on the tracks and she looks the most likely of the Riccarton juveniles for an early race. The novice event at the Kurow meeting should help her as a preliminary to the McLean Stakes.

Representatives of the Avondale Jockey Club, Wellington Racing Club, and the Auckland District Committee attended a meeting of the sub-committee of the New Zealand Racing Conference, in Wellington, last week, in connection with the'position that arose over the sub-committee’s decision allocating Avondale October 7 and 9. in lieu of October 14 and 16, for its spring meeting. The Wellington Racing Club withdrawing any objection to the Avondale Jockey Club racing on October 14 and 16 this year, and the Avondale Jockey Club having no objection to the Wellington Racing Club racing .on October 19, 21, and 23, it was decided that the Avondale Jockey Club be granted October 14 and 16. * * * # One of the Trentham candidates for the New Zealand Cup, and one who looks the most likely from Wellington headquarters, is Red Sun. He was a winner at Riccarton on Cup day last November over nine furlongs, and he also won the Racing Club Handicaps at both Ellerslie and Trentham. Following upon the latter success he was taken to Melbourne, but did no good on the trip. There is no need to attach too much importance to his Australian failures, as he went at a period when little improvement could he expected in his condition. Since his return ho has come on splendidly, and at present is looking particularly well and doing satisfactory work. Red Sun is bred to stay, and should 1 improve this season on previous form, being now a five-year-old.

Mistakes in the calculation of dividends are rare occurrences, but an unfortunate error was made in the declaration of flic win dividend on Avenius in (he Bollard Memorial Handicap at llutt Park on Saturday, and, several investors were paid the wrong amount before the mistake was discovered and rectified. It was lucky in a way for the club that the incorrect dividend was less than the actual dividend, and it is quite probable now that investors who were paid the wrong amount will be recouped the difference when complete declarations have been made. The dividend primarily declared on Avernus was actually only half the true dividend, the amount for I.os being hoisted as the amount tor Elfin the all-clear signal being given a start was made with paying out, but, it was almost at once, noted that there must bo a mistake somewhere, and payment was stopped till its was ascertained where the error lay
