MASTERTON CRITICISM “POLICY NOT IN BEST INTERESTS” Trenchant criticism of the policy of he Transport Board was levelled toy he Masterton County Council when wiving the following motion: “That n the opinion of this council the iresent policy of the Transport Board 3 Mot in the ’best interests of the comlufrity; that in our opinion the Transort Board should confine its activities o preventing unfair competition with provided that the railways ive cheap and efficient services; that ompetition should not be discouraged n feeder roads; that a number of chicles operating on feeder roads is ot advisable in this district.” Cr. Palloon said it seemed to him hat there was too much interference a matters connected with transport erviees. He believed in “o'pen lather.” If the 'Transport Board’s olicy was put into operation he main* aimed the same principle would, have o apply in the case of every other usihess.
Cr. F. H. Mawley thought they could ot do without the railways for longistanee carting, and maintained that f they did without them they would ave to spend millions on roads.
