(Herald Correspondent.) The Girl Guide party was, as usual, a very merry little function, and the Guides and their friends spent a most enjoyable evening. The commissioner, Mrs. Anderson, inspected the company, which was looking very spick and span, after which the horse shoe formation was made for the enrolment of a number of recruits. Songs were given by Misses H. }joore and D. Ross, and recitations by -Misses P. Hurlstone and M. Thatcher, while the company took part in a well thought out charade. A sumptuous birthday cake had been made bv Mrs. J. L. Reeves and decorated by Mrs. A. Reid, and at its distribution they were accorded musical honors. The camp fire was very interesting, for as well as the songs Guides with lighted candles repeated the 10 Guide laws. After the distribution of toys a musical parade was formed, and children and adults made merry with a multitude of noisy instruments. A feature was the hakas by the Maori Guides under the leadership of Miss Nonnoa, The prizes won during the year „eie presented by the commissioner, and Mesdarncs O'Connell and Cranswick were enrolled as members of the committee. At the conclusion Mrs. Anderson was presented with a beautiful bouquet. Tokornaru Ray Guides were re; resented by Miss -D. Taylor, captain, and Miss Geary, acting lieutenant. During the past fmv months skating has become so popular in Tolaga Bay that the Sports Club, which is running the rink, has decided to conduct a fancy dress carnival. Good prizes are being offered, and Lockwood’s on lustra lias been engaged. On Thursday night the annual school ball will take place. An innovation will be prizes for the best outfits made from flour bags and from sacks. The children will do several new dances, as well as the old favorites. ,A capable committee has ©barge of the arrangements. Music lovers received a treat last Thursday night when an interesting concert was staged in the Parish Hall. The programme ’began with an excerpt from Gilbert and Sullivan’s opera, “The Pirates of Penzance.” The major-general was played by Mr. B. Page, Mabel by Mrs. King, Edith bv Mrs. J. D. Thornton. and the sergeant of police by Mr. J. D. Hodgson. Songs by Messrs. Page and B. Brown, and a recitation by Master 0. Day followed, A one-act
