The matches in the programme of the Tokomaru Bay Ladies’ Coll Club will be over witlnn the next two weeks, when the medal mutch and the finals of the championships will the played. A medal round will be conducted this week-end to play for Mrs R. Murphy’s trophy. Several competitors have played their matches in the first round of the championship tournament, with the following results: Mrs N. Oates beat Miss Pepper, and Miss Savage beat Mrs G. Oates in the A division. In the junior grade Miss Maekay heat Miss Trafford, Mrs Gardner beat Miss J. Wilson, Miss Gibson beat Miss E. Oates, and Mrs Riddell beat Miss L. Coop. The latest club matches which have 'been decided are the handicap cup, flag match and the hidden hole. Tho cup was won by Miss D. Connie, who defeated Miss Maekay in the final by 4 to 2, after a hard game. Both players were in good form and the day was ideal for golf. Miss Maekay was the winner in tho flag match ihy carrying the flag to the nineteenth green. Mrs N. Oates won the hidden hole, which Was No. 10, after having tied with Miss Gibson and Miss D. Pepper. Mrs J. Moody and Miss Nancy Moody were the hostesses at a very enjoyable flag five-hundred evening at their residence, Beach road, on Tuesday' night. The winners in the card tournament were Misses M. Walker and L Connie, Messrs. J. Flanagan and F. Moat, who all received rewards. Mr J. Tankard won an “observation” test, and in a movie star competition Mr U. Tailknnl showed his superiority. The young guests played several games, and a delicious informal supper brought a jolly evening to a close. At a meeting of the Tokomaru Bay Rugby Sub-union this week it was decided to ask permission to play the Tokomaru Bay junior representatives against Marist thirds at Gisborne on September 16 as a curtain-raiser to the representative game at Gisborne. It was decided to write to the Waiapu subunion regretting that the Tokomaru Bay sub-union could not field a team for the Heni Houkamu Cup match, to have been played at Tokomaru Bay on September 16. The Tokomaru Bay School Committee lias decided to ask for an additional teacher. The roll number of 119, it was pointed out, was j'nst one short of. the necessary number required to improve the school grade. Of these, 44 were taken by orie teacher, 42 by another, 33 primor children by a third. The chair man, Mr. J. B. Stafford, declared that there was too much work for three teachers, and the meeting agreed with this.
