The card tournaments conducted jointly bv the Gisborne Military Band, and the Olympic Swimming Club pftvo that to popularise games it is essential for the promoters to organise something slightly different from the systems used by other organisations. This was proved with the inaugural night ol whist, commenced hist night, when despite the boisterous weather, several tables of enthusiasts were engaged playing the game. Storing was of quite n high nature, the five prize-winners points being ns follows Mrs. A. Warren, 174; Mrs. X. Neal, 171; Mr. S. Anderson, 169; Mr. <!. Barber, 165; and lady playing as gentleman, Mrs. Buckland, with 164. The tournament {will bo continued to-night when euchre enthusiasts will be allowed to contest their skill.
