METHODIST MEN’S CLUB
MONTHLY MEETING The second monthly meeting of the Methodist Men’s Club was held in the Bright Street Church schoolroom list evening. About 45 men sat down to | a hot tea, an increase in attendance of ab.out 10 on the initial meeting, i Mr. C. A. Harries was the chairman [for the evening. I Greetings from the Holy Trinity (Men’s Club were conveyed by Mr. i Robinson, and Mr. iField gave an account of the formation of a similar club in connection with an Auckland church. ! After the election of the committees to make arrangements for tho nest meeting, a committee Consisting of the president, the Rev. H. Daniel, the secretafy, Mr. J. Chrisp, and Messiah F. H. Forge and G. Aitken, was elected to. decide matters of club policy, A very interesting and instructive address was delivered by Mr. W. Carruthers, bacteriologist to the Cook Hospital, on the subject of bacteriology. Mr. Carruthers traced th e history of the science, explaining the com strtiction and power of micro-animisms and the rdeans by which modern bacteriology combats their harmful effects. The lecture was followed by the exhibition of bacterial cultures at»d other specimens. At the conclusion of the address the speaker was accorded a warm vote of thanks. • During the evening a. solo was - rendered by Mr. Shaw, while Mr. A. C. Coleman led community singing with Mr. L. C. D. Harries at the piano. A vote of sympathy was accorded Mr. Garland, an enthusiastic member of tho committee, who was absent owing to having suffered a painful accident. Votes of thanks were passed to the ladies who had so kindly served the toa, and also to the chair. The meeting closed at 8 o’clock with the singing of tho National Ahthem.
