BOGUS BUSINESS AGENCIES SYDNEY, May 5. An amazing story of an elderly man’s love affairs was unfolded at the Quarter Sessions to-day, when Bay Murray, 72 years, a manufacturer, was found guilty of the theft £2OO in respect of a business transaction. During the evidence it was stated that accused was a married man, that he was living with another woman, and that he was engaged to two others, and in the guise of a single man he was maintaining regular correspondence with four other women with a view to matrimony.
Accused was -remanded for sent nice.. Detective Cartwright said Murray had been engaged in bogus business agencies for a considerable time, and had obtained about ii'ooo from various people. One man, Mr. Dangar, and given him £IOOO without security, because he was a philanthropist, and had given the money solely out of a dcsiio to provido work for the unemployed. A young’ naval officer had also given £l5O on the understanding that he would eventually become u company manager, tie then resigned from the navy, married and bought £20.) n u. i of furniture on the time-payment system before he found that Mun ay had no position for him, and he was eventually forced to accept the dole. Murray had also received £3O from a woman at Bondi, to whom he had be come engaged, and ho had also secured £IOO from a widow at Earlwood, lo whom he had also become engaged. Murray, who had numerous convictions, including one for bigamy, conducted his own defence, and addressed the jury for two hours.
