COST OF CONFERENCES

SUGGESTED REDUCTION A remit that the business of the annual Dominion conference should ibe completed in one day in order to save extra hotel expenses for the delegates •was passed hv the North Taranaki branch of the South African .Veterans’ Association at the annual meeting in New Plymouth last. week. The suggestipn Was made by Mr T. MeWhirter for reasons of economy. The principle was endorsed by Mr K. Pike, who said that too much time was taken, by conferences, not only of this association, ■but of other organisations as well. Delegates attended conferences, said Mr Pi Ice, to transact, business, not to enjoy themselves. There was often :m adjourn linen t for morning tea, and in the afternoon there was some social ■gathering, or the delegates were taken around the district,. “It is ail very nice and I realise that it is all due to th,o desire of the local people to show their hospitality,” added Mr. Pike, ‘ ‘[But it means extra money for travelling expenses and in these times wo shjOuld practise stringent economy in Whatever direction possible.’’
