SEASON’S BEST GAME UNITED BEAT HIKURANGI (Herald Correspondent.) Football was again indulged in by both junior and senior teams in Ruatoria <m Saturday. In the junors, United were able to defeat Hikuraugi by 6 points to nil; C. Pokai and Kirkness scored both trie’s. Mr. Ben MeClutchie was the referee.

Upon the conclusion of the junior match, the United seniors, under T. Wanoa, and the Hikurangi seniors, under G. Reedy, then took the field. Mr. 11. Ngarimu was the referee. This game was the best of the season, both teams being very keen, and some lively football was witnessed. The outstanding back was B. Tulieke (United), who, although about the youngest player, gave a wonderful exhibition of good, clean football.

Play commenced with an evenness whicii brought the spectators to their feet and made them expect to see some sudden score if either side could manage to break away. G. Reedy (Hikurangi) was playing well and using all sorts of dodges to try and get away. He was eventually rewarded when after a good run by Jackson lie was given the ball and crossed the line. The kick, taken by L. McLean, was successful. liikurangi 5, United nil. K. Kohere (United) made a brilliant run down the line and crossed, 'but lost the ball. Half-time was called soon afterwards, the score being unchanged. < On resuming, play was very brisk. United narrowly missed one or two scores, and when a run commencing with R. Tamihere, to R. Tulieke, and ending with T. Wanna resulted in a tiy there was great excitement among the spectators. The kick failed. Hikurangi 5. United 3.

Hikurangi now made a strong attack, and it was only through the efforts of J. Crairer and B. Tulieke that United were able to clear. United then forced the pace, resulting in another try, the ball passing from T. Wanoa to J. (Yairer, to llati, to R. Tulieke, to R. Tamihere, who scored. This kick also failed. United 6. Hikurangi 5. The scores remained unchanged at the call of time. The outstanding players were, for llikurangi, G. Reedy, L. McLean, W. Hougara, S. Tautuhi, and W. Reedy; for United, R. Tulieke, T. Wanoa, K. Kohere, J. Crairer, and T. Tangihuia.
