FIRE IN WINDSOR CASTLE

LTARTED IN" DEAN’S QUARTERS LONDON, March 18. Historic Windsor Castle, long the residence of the Royal Family, narrowly escaped extensive damage from fire last week, it was learned only today. Late one evening flames broke out in oue of the oldest sections of tho castle and gave firemen .a hard fight, to prevent a serious outbreak. Tho fire started in the residence of Canon Blaekburne, in the dean’s cloisters, which wore built by Edward 111, and form one of tho oldest portions of the castle. The canon smelled something burning and suddenly found one of the oak beams in the ceiling ablake. The castle fire brigade worked a long time before the flames were extinguished.

The King and Queen were not in ■e,silence at the time.
