MANUTUKE MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Mauutukc Women’s Institute was held in the institute's hall on Tuesday, and the attendance was excellent. '1 lie president, Mrs. W. A. MeCiiskie, occupied the chair, and proceedings opened with the Canadian ode. Routine business was quickly dispatched, a ltd a long list of remits, to be presented at the forthcoming Dominion conference, to be held in Christen iiith in July, was read by the secretary, Mis. iuillinger. Discussion arose as to the advisability of sendig a delegate to the conference, and members expressed an emphatic and unanimous opinion that a delegate should be sent, as it was considered necessary to know just what took place, besides ensuring tne right of the institute to a hearing. The selection of a delegate was held over until next meeting. A schedule was received from the Poverty Bay A. and P. Society relative to its forthcoming Show, and institute members were asked to note the special section for Women’s Institute members. A report of the Poverty Bay federation council -meeting was given by the delegate, Mrs. G, .Marsicano, who also paid u high tribute to the ability of the federation president, Mrs. Dougal Williams. Another member who had attended the federation council meeting requested permission to speak, and she suoniemented the delegate s report by paying tribute to the honorary secretary of the federation, Mrs. W. A pleasing incident occurred during the afternoon tea interval, when the president presented a charming piece of crystal to Mrs. J. R. until this year, when she refused nomination . owing to ill health.’’ The speaker said that the gift was made in appreciation of valuable work, and she h ped it would bring buck pleasant memories. The recipient feelingly responded. Three competitions were set down for the afternoon and the results were as follows -Supper savories (5 entries): Mrs. Met? lslcte, 1; Mrs. Pitercy, 2; and Mrs. Hamilton. 3. Quilt made from the fleece (1 entry): Mrs. W. A. MiCliskie, 1. The photograph competition was won by Mrs. RuSsell.
