LAKE PHENOMENON

SMOKE RISES PROM WATER BAIRNBDALE (Vic.) April 7. A remarkable phenomenon occurred in Lake Victoria on Sunday in the vicinity of Beacon Point, west of Pelican Point, where several mud islands wore forced up from the bottom'of the lake about five years ago. A column of brack smoke about two or three feet in diameter shot into the air from the lake, rising* to a height of approximately ICOR. Ju the vicinity the waters of the lake became turbulent and remained so for several minutes.
