PREPARATIONS FOR ELECTIONS PROBABLE CANDIDATES CAPETOWN, April 2. Party nomination meetings in the urban constituencies will be held this week. It is announced that Mr. Tielinan Boos will oppose the Minister for Native Affairs, Mr. P. G. Grobler, in R-usten-burg (Transvaal), and the Minister for Lands, Colonel Reitz, will oppose Mr. 11. W. Sampson, the former Minister for Posts and Telegraphs. Commercial interests have combined, in a non-party league with the intention of nominating representatives. Colonel F. 11. P. Creswell, former Minister for Defence and Labor, has left the Rand to live at Belville, 20 miles from Capetown. The Deputy Prime Minister, General Smuts, has given a pledge not to~ppose him nor three candidates who remained faithful to the Prime Minister, General Ilertzog. The commercialists have nominated Mr Mushet, a shirt manufacturer, formerly an ardent follower of General -Smuts, to oppose Colonel Creswell. SOUTH-WEST AFRICA Coincident with the arrival of the new Administrator of South-west Africa, l)r. Conradio Windhoek, the Union flag was pulled down during the night, and replaced by the German monarcliial flag. The halyards were cut. The incident caused a sensation. Owing to the collapse of the diamond industry, and the fact that farm, produce is unsaleable, the community is sullenly hostile.
