MATAWAI NEWS
(Herald Correspondent.) The annual general meeting of the Mutawai-Motu branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association takes place on Saturday at Mr. 11. Pritchard s garage room. The local relief committee has re sumed activities in this district It has been arranged to hold Ansae Day services in Matawai at 11 a.in, and ■in Motu at 2.30 p.m. The Rev. Mr. j Johnston will conduct these services, and will arrive in Matawai on Monday evening. I The hinterland group Women’s Institute meeting, postponed from April, will now be held on the first Wednesday in May. Groups may send a delegate from the combined institutes which form them, to the annual Dominion conference in July, This important meeting is to he held in Christchurch this year. 1 A Yankee tennis tournament was held ' on the hard courts at Matawai on Easter , Monday visitors from Bakauroa taking ,’part. Miss Scholium and R. Mortleman i were the winners. I Mr. and Mrs. Kelly, Mangatuna, were i the guests of Sister Waugh during 1 Easter.—Miss Taylor, Wairoa, was the
guest of Mrs. C. Hustler.—Mr. and Mrs. T. McCollum, Ntraliinnpuri, visited Mrs. A. E. Gibson.—Mr. and Mrs. A. Mortleman spent a few (lavs with Mrs. R. Fleming and other relatives.—Miss M. Smith is the guest of Mrs. C. A Davidson. The April meeting of the Matawai Women’s Institute took place in the Public Hall last Thursday, when Mrs Burgess presided over a small attendance of members. Mrs. It, Moughton acted as secretary, and members spent an enjoyable afternoon.
