THE WAIAU SPORTS

RECORD EASTER GATHERING (Herald Oorrespoudent.) Typical Easter weather favored the promoters of the Waiau sports on Saturday, tliero being a very large attendance, apparently constituting a record, as the cars parsed on the terrace numbered between 60 and 70. The sports took place on the property of .\ir. W. Carson, an ideal spot tor the purpose, shaded all round, and with a ready-made grandstand. It could have been secured at one time as a domain for tile district ii the right steps had been taken. In the earlier part of the day tliero was a good (leal of time wasted owing to the competitors being slow m getting on the mark, but after the arrival of Mr. A. Ferry, of 2/P, who had been engaged by file club, the events moved more smoothly, the announcer not only calling up tho competitors hut supplying an acceptable musical programme. The loud speaker was certainly an innovation well worth copying. Those responsible for the carrying out of a very lengt.i, ..i. i.ne comprised the patron, Mr. S. K. Mitchell; president, Mr. T. 11.
