The News-Chronicle, after investigating a letter from an Austrian oxsoldier, reveals a war episode, the hero of which is believed to lie a young Australian named 'Somerville, who was in the 4th Battalion of flic oloucestersli ire Regimen t . The letter was written by Ernst Machek, of the 31711 i Austrian Infant ry. Tie says that a British regiment captured his unit at Caldonnzzo on the Italian front on November 7, HUS.
A British officer, tlio letter adds, remained at the bedside of an Austrian lieutenant, never sparing himself for 40 hours, until the patient died. Somerville is thought to have been the officer concerned.
