OBITUARY
MR. JOHN DIXON At the age of 77 yeurs there passed away hr Gisborne on Thursday a wellknown figure of the coaching days in Mr. .John Dixon. The late Mr. Dixon was born in Ireland, and grew up there, emigrating at the age of 29 years to New Zealand. He settled in Gisborne almost immediately after bis arrival in the colony, and three years later he took up business as a coach proprietor, with headquarters at Muriwai, then a centre of activity and an important stage in overland travel in the eighties and nineties. He continued his connection with the coaching business until 1915, when advancing yeras and a failure of health necessitated his retirement. He was much esteemed by all who knew him, and many of the older generation in particular will note with (leap regret his passing away. The late Mr. Dixon is survived by two sisters, Mrs. A. Hepburn, of Stanley road, and Mrs. T. .Smith, of Christchurch. These Indies are the solo remaining members of a.family that numbered 10, including Mr. William Dixon, of Mnkaraka, whose death occurred some months ago.
