Luncheon Party for Bride Elect. . On Wednesday a very delightful, informal luncheon party was given ht the Masonic Hotel in honor of Aliss Dorothy Hamilton, whose marriage to Air. AV. BlathVvayt will take place next week, the hostesses, being Air's H. E. Harris and Mrs R. Fitzgerald, bt Hangaroa. The luncheon table* was charmingly decorated with mauve and pink Alichuelmas daisies, daintily arranged. Mrs Harris was wearing a smartly tailored suit of brown tweed and a brown felt hat to match. ; Mrs -Fitzgerald was wearing a smart tailored coat and skirt of black erepc-de-ehine relieved with a vestee and trimmings of white, worn witti u black hat. Parties for Bride-Elect. On Wednesday afternoon Airs Harris and Mrs Smaill, .Clifford street, were joint, hostesses at a very enjoyable party given in honor of Aliss Stella Salt, whose marriage to Air. Keith Westmoreland is to be celebrated this month. Beautiful dahlias in autumn colorings were artistically arranged in the drawing-room in which the guests were entertained. Aluch-appreciated musical items were given, and interesting competitions held during the afternoon.-'

After a dainty afternoon tea had been served, the guest of honor opened her parcels, revealing a varied collection of,,,pseful and beautiful gifts, Jot which she thanked her friends iu a pleasing little speech. Airs Harris was wearing a smart frock of black lacc.

Airs Smaill was becomingly frocked in blue crcpc-dc-chinc. A graceful frock of scarlet -angel skin was worn by the guest of honor. Her mother, Airs Salt, wore a becoming frock of wine-colored velvet. On Tuesday evening a very enjoyable gift party was given in honor of Miss Salt by Miss Betty Williams. The guests were entertained with musical items, competitions and dancing, all enjoying a very jolly evening. After supper, Aliss Salt and her bridesuiaid-to-bc, Aliss Aialcolm, opened the large assortment of parcels which had been brought by the guests, the guest ,of honor thanking her friends for their attractive and acceptable gifts. Aliss Williams wore a gracefullyfashioned black evening frock. Aliss Salt was wearing a pretty frock of pale pink organdie. Prior to her departure from the staff of the Duco Office, Aliss Stella Salt, who is to be married on Easter Afonday, was presented with a canteen of cutlery by the members of the Duco Alotor Service, the presentation being made by Air. J. Alusgrave. Miss Salt, in a few well-chosen words, thanked them for their kindness and good wishes. Evening Party. On Tuesday evening Captain and Alls Bongard entertained several of the visiting officers who have been iu camp, at a' very jolly informal dam e at their home in Russell stfeet.

Evening Party for Bride-elect A delightful party was given by Aliss Constance Gardner at her home in Parau street bn Wednesday evening in honor of Aliss Catherine Dow, who is to be married this month. Dynes on Wednesday evening in the Orange Hall, Cobden street, in honor of Aliss Alay AlcUrory, who is to be married next ween to Air. Ted Gilchrist. The hall was. beautifully decorated with multicolored, streamers, balloons, and flags, .whilst the floor was in perfect condition. The popularity of the young couplo was shown by the large number ot people present. Old-time and modern dancing was indulged in, interspersed with competitions, the winners of which are as follows :—Balloon dance, Air. and Mrs. Coker; Monte Carlo, Mr. J. 0. Hair and Airs. H. McCaig; spot fox trot. Mr. R. Blucy and Miss G. Dixie, all of whom received suitable prizes. At an appropriate interval a dainty hand-round supper was dispensed by a band of willing helpers, this being greatly appreciated. Mr. D. AlcLeod, in a few wellchosen words, expressed the good wishes of the gathering for the couple’s future happiness and asked them to accept the large number of useful gifts. The health of the happy couple was then drunk, the company singing, “For They are Jolly Good • Fellows.” In a neat little speech on Aliss McGrory's behalf, Air. Gilchrist thanked everyone for their kindness. Dancing was continued until an early hour, the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” bringing a memorable gathering to a close. The Orange Hall, Cobdeu street, was the scene of a very delightful and jolly gathering on AVednesday evening when Mrs. Dynes gave a gift party and dance, in honor of Aliss Alay AlcGory and Air. E. Gilchrist, whose marriage will be celebrated next week. The hall was gaily decorated with colored paper streamers and balloons, and the dance music was played by Mrs Alenzies’ orchestra. The programme comprised many old-time and Scotch dances, which were very popular, the old familiar airs being appreciated by all present. Dance contests were also hold; a novelty balloon dance competition caused much merriment, both among the dancers and their audience, and was won by Mr and Airs Croker; a spot fox-trot was won by Aliss Dixie and parlner, and a Alontc Carlo waltz contest by Mrs‘McCabe and Air. The guests of honor received a large number of useful gifts suitable fpr stocking their pantry, which were brought by ’their -fellow guesl x, the articles being varied and numerous, including a large bag "of sugar. Military Ball There was a very large attendance at th(‘ military dance given on Wednesday evening at Poho-o-Rawiri by the officers, non-com mission edMifficers, and men of Regimental Headquarters A Squadron, AVellington East Coast Mounted Rifles, as a social function in connection with their annual training camp. A regimental band was in attendance as well as Chrisp’s orchestra, •aright ami popular dance music being emlered throughout the evening, dent.-Colonel Nicholls, D. 5.0., officer oinnianding the Southern Military Jomniand, in the course of the evening n-fsented the various trophies won at he regimental sports held in conneerion with the cam'p, congratulating the viliners on their successes.

The supper-room, where delicious re’reshments were served, was prettily decorated with colored streamers and the tables arranged with mixed autumn flowers.

The hall presented a gay scene, tho pretty evening fljocks of the ladies, mil the full dress uniforms of the jfficers and men adding to the festive atmosphere. Manchester Unity Ball

Under the auspices of the Manchester Unity, 1.0.0. F., who organised the function as a prelude to their winter season of social activities, the Loyal Gisborne Lodge held a most enjoyable ball on Tuesday evening Just in t-lie Freesia Lounge. Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Ellis, on behalf of flic lodge, welcomed a number oJ guests from other; local friendly societies. Lodge members from the country were present, some corning lrorn Tolaga Bay to attend, and the function proved a happy reunion for members not always able to lie present at regular lodge meetings.

The duties of AI.G. were efficiently carried out by Air. T. Dutistan. and tho dance music was provided by Mrs. Alenzies’ orchestra.

The playing of the old-time dances by the orchestra was much appreciated, dancers enjoying the rhythm- and grace, both of melody and tune of tho olde>' measures.

Arrangements were in the hands of ? social committee headed by Mr. and Airs. Wallen, who bad associated with them a band of energetic workers. It is the intention of the committee to hold a further series of social functions during the winter months.

Young People’s Dance. On Saturday evening last a very jolly surprise party was organised by Alisses Betty Findlay, June Adair, and Ngaire Langridge at the home of Airs. AV. Findlay, Ormond road.

The drawing-room was artistically decorated with beautiful dahlias in autumn colorings, and the large din-ing-room and verandah had been cleared for dancing. Delightful dance music was rendered by several of the guests. A dainty supper was much appreciated by the young folk. Mrs AV. Findlay received the guests wearing a becoming frock* of black lace with a coatee to match.

Aliss Betty Findlay wore a charming ankle-length frock of green organdie, with a pink panne velvet bridge coat trimmed with white fur. Miss Ngaire Langridge was wearing a dainty frock of pale pink organdie, arid Aliss June Adair was becomingly frocked in powder blue satin and georgette.

The first meeting of the new year was held by tho Patutahi AVomcn's Institute, in the local hail on Tuesday afternoon, thus commencing the year’s monthly meetings. In the absence of the president, Airs G. A r . Smith, tho chair was ably taken by Aliss J. Picken. There was a verygood attendance of members. Four new members were elected, these being Alcsdamos D. Campbell and E. Russell; and Alisses J. Campbell and E. Turnbull.

Arrangements for holding a men's evening wore 'made, tho date being fixed for April 27. Airs J. Breingan gave two very interesting demonstrations, one on passepartout picture framing, and the other on how to preserve apples with sulphur.

At the conclusion of the first demonstration Airs Breingan presented the picture she had framed to the Institute as a prize for a competition, this being won by Airs F. Lange. Airs Breingan was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for her instructive demonstrations. The community table, which was supervised by Afesdamcs T. Peel and F. Lange, was very well patronised. The results of tho two competitions for the month were announced ns follows: —“Best npplo-pio,” juuged by Airs iSVragg: Airs AV. Atkins, 1; Airs Cusack, 2; Airs Shanks, 3. “A child’s garment made from something old,” judged by Airs■ MeCliskic and Airs Breingan: Airs Peach, 1; Mrs J. Atkins, 2; and Airs AA’nlleer, 3. Tho garments entered for the latter .competition wore donated to the community box. A’ery good business was done, at the “bring and buy” table, under the supervision pf .Airs Thodoy. . Following the general business and programme of the , meeting, afternoon tpa wa.s served, the hostesses, being Alcsdamos Ritchie, Dover, Bridgeland, 'afid Eflst, and Alisses N. and L. Brvson.
