TOLAGA BAY NEWS
(Herald Correspondent.) The second annual meeting of the Tolaga Bay sub-branul of the l'lunket Society was held in the Parish Hull, when there was a fair attendance. In the absence of the president, Mrs. E. Loisei, the chair was occupied by Mrs. J. L. Reeves. The secretary, Airs. G. U. U'Connell, read the report and balance sheet for the year, in which she stated, inter alia: “The linaneiul position is quite satisfactory, and after paying our year’s quota of £4O we have a credit balance of £1 12s Bd. During the yeut Tolaga Bay was visited 27 times, and as many as 273 adults and 333 babies visited Hie office of the Plunkct nurse.” The election of officers and committee for the ensuing year resulted as follows: President, Mrs. E. Loisei; vice-presidents, Alesdames L. J. Reeves, A. E. Reeves and U. W. King; secretary and treasurer, Airs. G. U. O’Connell; committee, Alesdames Hodgson, P. T. Weeks, 1). Donald, S. MacDonald, Alattaiazzi, 11. P. Banon, E. B. Lincoln, Miss Barham and Sister Roberts. The president proposed a vote of thanks to the committee in appreciation of the splendid work done during the year; to Nnrso Reid for her untiring attention to her patients; and to all who have helped the society to carry on its work. Mr. Rob Dods, formerly of Gisborne, and well known in musical circles, lias tabled to liis friends that lie will be singing over the air on Sunday night from KFI Los Angeles. Alooro had the misfortune to cut his leg with the axo, seven stitches having to he used in attending to the wound.— Mr. R. Prebble was taken to To Puia llos pitnl on Monti.iv nm ■: ml the latest report states that he is making good progress.—While working at the Whangara quarry crusher, a young man named Watford had his leg jammed. He was taken to Cook Hospital, where it was found that his injuries were not serious.—Messrs. Watkins and Sholto Smith, Auckland, nnd J. P. Iloaro, Wanganui, were recent visitors to Tolaga Bay.
Tho sports chili is indebted to Mr. Watkins for the donation of a competition cup for running evonts. This i 3 the first, cup to be donated for athletics, and should do much to encourage this branch of sport at the local sports meetings. This year’s snorts promise to be the most outstanding held here for many years. Entries have been received from ■practically all over Poverty Bay.
