WAIROA HERD TESTS
RETURNS FOR MARCH (H«ald Correspondent.) Butterfat production at a fairly high level is being maintained by herds tested by the Wairoa County Group Herd Testing Association, and last month the average for 44 herds was 27.15i1> ol butterfafc per cow. This figure is over 31b less than for the previous March, but the large increase in the number of herds under test may offset any advantage otherwise secured. The March averages are provided as follows, the figures m parentheses being those for March of last year 44 (33) herds, 1345 (1348) cows. 5121 b (6061 b) of milk, 5.33 (5.00) test, 27.151 b (30.311 b) of huttorfat; highest herd, 19 (?8) cows, 37.681 b (38.931 b) of butterfat; lowest herd, 12 (76) cows, 13.331 b (21.911 b) of butterfat; highest cow, 731 b (741 b) of butterfafc; lowest cow 4!b (61b) of butterfat.
The association’s merit list to the end of March is as follows, the figures given in tho order named being the month’s fat, the total fat for the season to date, and the number of days in milk :
