The following annual report was presented at the fifth annual meeting of the Pututulii branch of the Women’s Institute :

“The year commenced with a roll of 82 members and concluded with 102, during the year 31 new members being enrolled and 11 resignations received. The average attendance at meetings held during tlie period was 65 members. Regret was expressed at the loss of the following members, who had left the district: Mrs. A. Hall, Balclutha; Mrs. and Miss Salt, Opotiki; Miss Lines, Wanganui; Miss Pedersen, Auckland; Miss Brosnahan, Waipukurau; Miss Shone, Hastings; and Miss Blacker, Gisborne. The three circles operating last year were as follow: Gardening, dramatic and social, and card circle, all of which had proved most successful, both financially and otherwise. Among successful functions held during the year were husbands’ evening, flower show, and children’s party. The institute participated in the schemo for advertising New Zealand butter, £4 being sent to the Women’s Institute at l’uriihaiii-on-Oouch, Essex, England. Since then one of the local members had received two letters and also egg-cozies from members of that institute. A Women’s Institute calendar was also forwarded to the .Rurnham-on-Crouch branch.

Several interesting and instructive addresses and demonstrations had been given during the year, and the institute desired to take the opportunity of thanking the following for their kindness: Addresses: Mrs. W. Lissaut Clayton, ■‘Care of the hands and feet, including a demonstration of the care of the hair; Dr. Nina Muir: “Mental and physical hygiene for women and girls”; Canon Wyde, “Africa.” Demonstrations: Mrs. J. Breingun, passe-partout training; Mrs. Pitt and Mrs; Takina, flax kit-making; M rs. Lissaut Clayton, a‘hundred novelties from rose and herb garden. Thanks were also due to Mrs. Anderson and Mr. Coleman for conducting a community sing in November, and also to the following for assistance in flood relief: Whatatutu Women’s Institute, gift of clothing; Tiniroto Women’s Institute, donation of £1 for seeds ; Mr. Berridge and Mr. Cook, plants; Poultry Association, settings of eggs, Thanks were accorded the following circles for presentations made to the institute on the, occasion of its fourth birthday; Gardening Circle, entertainment and dramatic, and card circle.

The various competitions that had been held had received the whole-hearted support of the members, tho winner of the 12 months’ prize being Mrs. George Scragg. The gift prizes, for which anonymous donors were responsible, were awarded as follows: Mrs. Lange, 1; Mrs. Shanks and Miss Kirk, equal, 2; Mrs. Sutherland, 3. A parcel of magazines and a beautiful collection of spring Rowers had been sent to the members of sister institutes who were in hospital in 'September. In October a box of eggs was forwarded to the Heni Materoa Children’s Home. In conclusion, thanks wore accorded to the president, the committee, and all members for kindness and assistance given during the year.
