RUAKITURI SPORTS
A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING (Herald Correspondent.) Delightful weather prevailed lor the annual gathering of the Ruakituri Sports Club on Saturday on the property ot Mr. I’. Smith, which was again placed _ by him at the disposal of the club, the spot is an ideal one for sports, being sheltered from heavy gales, and the terrace forms a. natural grandstand. On this there were parked quite a. large number of cars, hut most of the occupants soon went down on to the flat, being) evidently greatly interested in the proceedings. There was rather much grass on the running track, and as a- consequence, the times in some events were not fast. Many of those present expressed the opinion that if the club could afford to plough and lay down the trade it would not in any way affect the pasturage, and the entries probably would be doubled. The Ruakituri Handicap Cup (standing chop fell to J. Dahm, and the Dalrm brothers gave a very fine exposition of the bushman’s art. The Red Bus Cup, the donation of Mr. B. G. Hayden and staff for Min. underhand chop, was won by M. P. Smith.
Those responsible for the carrying out of the programme performed their duties so well that there were no delays and the programme was completed by . 4.30 p.m. These comprised Messrs. J. E. N.
