A SUCCESSFUL SEASON STRONG FINANCIAL POSITION “The financial position of Ihe club is now the strongest it has been for some years, and it behoves members to sec Unit, the balance-sheet retains its present healthy appearance;” states the report to he presented at the annual meeting of the Celtic Football Club on Wednesday night. Inter alia, the report states: — “A study of flic positions of the club's teams in the various grades reveals the strength of our position in the Rugby circle of Poverty Bay. Though none of the teams managed to win in its grade, all wore consistent to he near the top, enabling us to secure the Aggregate Cup for the club obtaining the greatest number of Championship points during the season. Our thanks are due to Messrs. U. Carter and V. Norman for their very able coaching of the players during the past season.

“Once again our senior team filled second place on the championship ladder. The position of runnersup seems to be reserved for them. Starting off the season with high hopes, they just failed to bring the early promise shown to fruition. Milligan, McKinley, Rogers, Carrington, •Cummings, O ’Jlalloran, Dunlop, Walters, MurJand, and Hewson were among those chosen to represent Poverty Bay in various representative teams. Many thanks an* due by them to the untiring energies of their trainer, Mr ,S. Shel■d rake.

The junior team, coached by Mr C. Carter, did well, and though unable to head the fist, the players are In he congratulated Upon their fine performances. The third grade team is at the same time to lie congratulated and commiserated with. Their triumphant procession of clear-cut victories was marred by one defeat, which cost; them the championship. Great praise is due to Mr V. Norman for his keen interest, and it can he safely said that the team’s good ’performances are entirely due to his coaching. “During the season each of tin* teams played against an outside club. In September the .juniors journeyed to Napier, ami won a hard-fought game in the mud. They were royally entertained by the Marist Old Boys’ Club, and enjoyed their trip immensely. Later in the season Marist- Old Boys’ senior team made the trip from Napier to play our senior team for the ’.Brennan Gup. After a hard struggle, we succeeded in wresting the trophy from them. Our annual smoke concert was arranged to coincide with their stay, and was a successful function. The third grade team went to Wairoa for flieir annual game with the Wairoa Old Boys for the Albion Shield, and returned well satisfied with the trip and with the fact that they still held the trophy. “Arrangements are now well in hand for the seniors to ’play in Wanganui in the tournament sponsored by the New Zealand Marist Rugby Football Association. The club is now affiliated to the association, and the committee hopes that the club will see its way clear to participate in future tournaments, which are to lie hold annually at Easter in the various centres of the North Island. “The club desires to thank all its supporters who attended its games (luring the season, and others who assisted in any way. Its special thanks are due to Air and Airs G. 11. Scents for their many kindnesses.
