MAIZE BUSINESS DULL Tho market for Gisborne maize remains particularly quiet, and the position lias been affected considerably by tho exceptionally low prices for wheat. Gisborne quotations, however remain firm at 3s lid per bushel, f.o.h. It is believed that with the advent of cooler weather the demand should improve, .hut a price improvement is not being looked for at present in view of the fact that there appear to be ample stocks to cover all requirements. An increase in the price of bread is likely to take place in Wellington to-day. The question of bread prices was considered at a meeting of the "Master Bakers’ Union, when consideration was given the prices that have been ruling recently, and it was contended that the price of 4d for the two-pound loaf was too small.
