The Duke of Gloucester has returned to London from a two months’ expedition in the Sudan. His trophies include two elephants, and two lions.

‘ "Mr. W. A. Kiely, inspector of the Union Bank of Australia for New Zealand, is retiring after nearly 45 years’ service, with the bank. He will be. succeeded by -Mr. T. P. Fotheringham, manager of the Wellington branch of the Union Bank.

Lord Latymer, of Shipton Lodge, Sliipton-Under-'Wychwood, England, who recently arrived in New Zealand in company with Lady Latymer and his daughter, the Hon. Mercy MoneyCbutts, is at present deer-stalking in the Lake Wanaka district. The three will afterward visit Mt. Cook, and later will tour the North Island.

MY. ]>. W. Coleman, M.P., who returned to Gisborne during the weekend, proposes to undertake shortly Iris campaign in connection with the Mayoralty. He will remain in Gisborne until August, when Parliament is expected to resume. With other members who served continuously through the last session of Parliament, lie has welcomed an opportunity for recuperation, but came through the strenuous weeks prior to the closing of the session with much less strain than he experienced in last year's Parliamentary work.

Mr. H. Sutcliffe, the English professional ‘cricketer, Who ‘ is a passenger on the Wangatiella, will leave for Gisborne - upon the arrival of the vessel at Wellington to-molrow morning, and is expected to arrive here on 1 Wednesday evening. He will' be the guest oi Mr. arid Mrs. d. Gardner, llihivoroa, until Siniday. Mr. Sutcliffe has intimated his willingness ! to play for Poverty liny Club in the annual match with Waivon Club, which will’ be played at the Oval on Friday.
