From :i weed growing pvoliflcalJy in Central Otago and parts of the North Island a bast fibre lias been obtained which from general appearances looks as if it might* have possibilities in the manufacture of fabrics and the better classes of twine. The fibres, which are strong, average 6ii). in length, and are of the fine fibre class. It is said that they are rapidly given up by the. week when subjected to chemical treatment. Investigations as to yield bleaching, and other properties are being conducted at the Dunedin laboratory of the Now Zealand Wool pack and Textile Company, Limited.
