INCREASE LIKELY

PRICE OP MOTOR CAES EFFECT OF HIGH EXCHANGE (Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. [t j s crpnorally considered probable that the price of English motor cars will rise to at least the same extent that the exchange rate has risen, although, as a matter of fact, members of Hie trade in Wellington have not yet definitely decided the point. Conferences on the subject are proceeding. A definite announcement is probable in a day or two. The high duty already existing on foreign' ears and accessories has resulted in their importation being practically at a standstill for some time, and a further rise in the prices'of British and American cars will not stimulate trade. Much trade is being done at present in second-hand cars in good repair, but the price of these, too, it is anticipated, will increase when the effect of the higher exchange rate is felt in the cost of new models.
