(To the Editor of the Herald.) Sir, —In a recent issue you informs us that the chairman of the Uneniptoy ment Board, Mr. Jessep, propose* making investigations as to the possi bilities in prospecting for gold neoj Motu. Tliis is probably on the sugges tion of someone with local knowledge Preparatory to any men being sent this locality it would be advisable tha the area be covered by a geologic* survey. The existing survey does no extend west of Waikohu and Mangati survey districts. Somewhere about 0 years ago Mr. P. G. Morgan reports upon various deposits considered suit aide for road metal, etc., in the Motu bora and Matawai districts. In hi! report he made no mention of the possi bilities of finding gold there. Gold pros pecting is a hard life and the reward are few. Tt is to be hoped that tHi job will be tackled as it should be.Yours, etc., PENNYWEIGHT.-
