ALSATIANS’ OBEDIENCE

TESTS IN GISBORNE SPECIAL AWARDS MADE Gome clever performances were witnessed at the Childers road reserve yesterday afternoon in the obedience tests hold by the Gisborne branch of tho New Zealand Council of Alsatian Sheep Dog Control. Four tests were to have been finalised, but in view of the length 1 of time involved and the lateness of the afternoon it w-as decided to abandon two'of .the classes. However, the work displayed in both the novice and general obedience tests showed the competing dogs to be under good control. On nearly all occasions obedience was instant, and even the novice dogs carried out the eom'mauds in the simpler tests in an admirable fashion. The tests included broad and high jumps, and one dog, J. W. Birch’s Crumstone Pan, cleared 6ft. 10-Jin. in the high jump.

The obedience test awards wore as follows:

Novice class (2 entries): F. Coker’s Donald of Kilmartin, 81 points, 1; Airs Griffin’s Crumstone Echo, 78 'points, 2. The possible points were 100. General obedience (3 entries): Mrs M. A. Black’s Collette of Leehavcn, 118 points, 1; J. W. Birch’s 'Crumstone Pan, 113 points, 2; Airs Griffin’s Echo, 80 points. 3. The possible points were 150.

•Special awards wore made for the obedience tests as follows: —High jump:. J. W. Birch’s Crumstone Pail, 6ft. lOJin., 1; Airs M. A. Black’s Collette of Leehavcn, 6ft. 6-Jin., 2. Best, style of handling: Airs Griffin. Best novice handler (Airs Griffin’s trophy): J. W. Birch. Best type of dog qualified for general obedience: J. W. Birch’s Crumstone Pan.

Ribbon parade s’pecial awards were made as follows: —Best puppy under three months: Air Wallace’s Eric A r on Ericksdalc. Best puppy (Air Rastall’s trophy): Mrs Griffin’s 'Crumstone’s Echo. Best limit (Mrs Griffin’s trophy): J. W. Birch’s Crumstone Pan. Best dog in the chow (Airs Rastall’s trophy): J. W. Birch’s Grumstone Pan. Best opposite sex (Miss Green’s ■trophy): Mrs Griffin’s Crumstone Echo.

An error was made in the announcement of the result , of the puppy dog under six months. Mr Wallace’s Eric Von Ericksdalo wns given second place, and not Mr Nunn’s entry as previously stated.
