MACRAE BATH CONTROL

FENCE TO BE ERECTED CARNIVAL FEES INCREASED Various matters in connection with the control of the Macrae Baths were discussed in a report made to the Borough Council at its meeting last evening by the finance and bath committee, the Committee, amongst other things, recommending that a fence should be erected to serve as a wind-break, as suggested hy the swimming clubs. The Committee had received a deputation from the Gisborne and Olympic swimming clubs, and the discussion which ensued was summarised in the lollowing report: — “The question of the erection of a fence At the south-eastern end in front 6f the plantation was considered, and it was agreed to recommend that a 6ft, iron fence be put- up, and to raise the cost of so doing, that the fee for carnivals be increased from £2 2s to £3 3s per night. Owing to the account being in debit to the amount of £47, it was 'intended to make an increase in the charges, but as the carnival charge had been raised to pay for the fence, no other increase will he made.

“The deputation raised the question of instituting club nights, two days a week to each club, leaving Thursdays and Saturdays for carnivals. Club nights Would be tinder the control of the swimming club allocated for the night, and '■■Utliriission vjfouLdl be charged to all, whether swimmers or onlookers, the takings to be divided between the council and the club on a percentage basis to be arranged. The question of concession tickets for dub nights could he considered, the usual concession rickets not being available on these nights. “H was agreed to recommend that a trial he given to this system, arid that the two dubs arrange their nights between tbgin”

The report was adopted. A contribution of £b* 9s 9d towards the cost of the fence was received from Mrs. A. Beer, honorary secretary of the Macrae Bath executive, who explained that the amount represented the balance the committee had in hand. It was resolved that- a letter of thanks should be forwarded to the committee.
