SOUTHERN CROSS SAILS (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. A crowd of about 250 persons gathered on the King’s wharf, Auckland, yesterday, to farewell the Melanesian Mission’s new Southern Cross, which loft shortly after noon for the islands. A short sendee was conducted by Archbishop Averill on the ship half an hour before Its departure. The Southern Cross was gaily decorated with flags for the occasion of her departure and when she dew out cheers followed her.
