THE SESSION’S WORK
YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS TWO LIVELY TOPICS (Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. The superannuation amending measure —one of the' most important pieces of legislation of the session—made its appearance in the House yesterday. Tho mere announcement of the bill aroused virile opposition from the Labor benches, and the whole principle of the bill was vigorously assailed. Labor members were openly doubtful of the Select Committee giving an adverse roport on the bill and suggestions of “ jury-packing” were heard. After two hours’ discuafeion the bill was read a second time, and referred, pro forma, to the committee. The House then resumed the financial debate. The long period which had elapsed since the adjournment of this debate had given members who had not previously spoken plenty of time to.prepare speeches, with the result that the standard of the debato was much abovo that of the earlier portion. A feature was a lively contribution by Mr. A. J. Stallworthy (Coal., Eden).
