MELBOURNE, Oct. 1. Having returned■ from a visit of inspection to the new goldfield at The Granites, Central Australia, Mr. R. 3\. Powell, mining engineer, lias reported to the directors of The Granites Gold, N.L., that the field is one of promise, and that it warrants large developmental expenditure. Judging by the size of the lode, Mr. Powell considers it possible, ii values are proved over a great width, that mining could be done 'by open cut, thus saving'the cost of mining timber, which is scarce and costly. A settlement is being formed round The Granites solitary well, a small store being already established.
