EARTHQUAKE DISTRESS
WAIROA-GISBORNE AREA Writing on . October 8, Mr. E. *iK. Cameron, secretary of the South Taraiiaki executive of the Farmers’ Union,, informed the secretary of the Poverty Bay branch that a sum of money had b(*eri raised for Wairoa-Gisborno_ earthquake distress relief and that it * was hoped by the various branches in South Taranaki to build up a fund for this purpose. He asked for advice regarding the distribution of the money. Mr. Cameron has received a reply from the secretary of the Poverty Bay branch of the union, conveying expressions of high appreciation of the action taken by union members in South Taranaki.
The writer adds: “The country districts between Gisborne and Napier suffered very severe losses in numerous land slips and total losses of fences. We consider the fund you are buildjng up should be for the relief of both these districts. W T e should much appreciate advice from you at a later date as to how the fund is progressing, and we could ‘then advise you more definitely how it should be distributed:’’
